MO' IS BETTAH! LOL
Well, I guess I'll play. Simple minds: I'd like a Savage Target Model in .260. I'd like it topped with a VORTEX FFP Mill-Mil. 6-24x50, with sunshade. Put that in a Cohate Stock. Harris BiPod 13-25" swivel model. AND components to load 2000 rounds of ammo. for it. I'm too tired and lazy this AM (worked all night) to look up models and prices, I'm guessing I'm under $6K.
I'll even travel up to 100 miles one way to get it!

Learning something new, experiencing something new and sharing the journey are reason enough to get out of bed each day!
The best bang for the buck, that even if you spent more than this, would be hard pressed to beat it.
It goes like this in round numbers.
Target action $600.00
Custom barrel $400.00
Stock $300.00
Rail & Rings $200.00
Sightron 10x50x60 $1000.00
Total $2500.00
I would take two of these for 5 grand

RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.
Yeah....you bot the factory rifle then trashed the stock & barrel when you could have just bot a Savage action & built from there. Then you plowed $$$$$ into glass that IMHO, is overkill. A good VX-3 with a 25X Max will do ya fine.
Dave.
I had one of those Sightrons 10x50x60 for about 10 days use, "a very good friend" and I tried it on 6 of my different rigs, from my smallest 223AI to my 338 Edge and everything in between, and I can't believe how it reduced the size of my groupings, It's like looking though the Hubble telescope, I am sold anyways.

Savage 110 action: $300
Match barrel-24" Varmint contour: $400
Manners T-4 with DBM bottom metal: $975
TPS Steel rings and base: $150
US OPtics or Hensholdt scope: $3,000
$1,100: More Lapua brass and Berger bullets than you can shake a stick at.
Personally I would fore go that Boyd's laminate stock for something along the lines of a B&C Medalist Tactical. The .338 Lapua is a very stout round and generates a lot of recoil. I'm not saying that the Boyd's cannot handle it but I would rather have that beast sitting in something that had an integrated full length aluminum bedding block. It should be more rigid under recoil and eliminate the need to pillar bed. It should provide better shot to shot consistency.
Target action left bolt right port or a dual port 338 edge
$600
Whidden tactical stock
$600
Vortex viper ffp scope
$1200
Vortex rings
$100
Egw heavy duty base
$100
MC gowen barrel
$400
Glades bolt handles
$60
$3060
I'll take one in the 338 edge, one in 22-250 and probably 260
The 22-250 and 260 would be DBM repeaters.
Or....find a RUM action and get a .338 Edge barrel. More performance and cheaper to build.
More shooting, less typing.
18 or 20 inch LaRue OBR in .308, topped with the Vortex Razor.
If I had $6,000 to blow on a rifle, you can rest assured it wouldn't be a Savage.
FTR in 223, BA LE Tactical in 308, 110 Flatback in CBI 6mmBR Norma, Others
$6000!!??!?!?!?!!?
Ok.
$1000 for a fully loaded Savage.
$5000 for a weekend at Key West.
A long weekend.
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!

I would put $1300- in a 110 fcp-hs. If it needs a rebarrel then you can factor that in later. Mine shoots incredibly well. That takes care of the stock also because it is already in an H-S Precision stock. Good glass $1000- to $1500-. Decent suppressor like a YHM Phantom SS/QD 338 $851- Good rings $150- it comes with a rail. $3500- to $4000-. Then you are free to spend the other $2000- on reloading components, you will need it. .338 Lapua is not cheap to shoot. Factory ammo is astronomically expensive and reloading for it, if you factor in the cost of brass it is about $1.32 per round for me to reload it.
Any clod can have the facts; having opinions is an art.
If it doesn't have to be a Savage, I'll do a Bighorn action built by Beanland, or a Tango51 by TacOps.
For a Savage, I'm kind of doing what I want right now, but a T&T'd .260 in a T4A or a light weight .257 Roberts in one of Manners' EH series both have a lot going for them.
All of those will leave plenty of cash for optics, and each one will ask for different glass.
110 Action....300-350
338 edge barrel 30".....400
McMillan A3 or A5......720
Farrel base and rings.......300
NF NXS 5.5-22x50 ZS......2000
--------------------------------------------
4120 total.
Enough left for dies, brass, bullets, primers and powder.
I can't see building a dream rifle off a savage platform period. there are so many actions that are where you need them to be....without all ofthe work. Now a workhorse get dirty and beat up rifle. Savage all the way.
The term lipstick on a pig comes to mind.LOL
