I remember firing my first reloads. And wondering about my body parts!

I loaded five rounds each (42/42.5/43/43.5/44 grains) of .308 with Varget and 168 Amax projectiles. Fired all 25 over a 2.5 hour period and no pressure signs or headspace issues. The 43 and 43.5 grain rounds grouped the best, FWTW.
Anyways, thanks to all for the reloading advice. Ya done good.

You are obviously not using enough powder.
Just Kidding good for you, I know the feeling.

RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.
Wish I had been so lucky. I was a newbie and took Scope Eyes advice.
No such thing as a good group without pics! : ) I'm a newbie too, only been reloading for just over a year--but rolling your own can't be beat. Congrats on yet another obsession. : )

I remember firing my first handloads. IIRC I was ducking under the shooting bench and pulled the trigger on the first one wearing a welding glove. I'll bet I checked that pc of brass and the rifle over for 5 min before shooting a 2nd one.
Now I don't believe I have bought a single round of factory ammo (other than rimfire and shotgun) with the exception of 1 box of 380Auto when I got my LCP (couldn't wait for dies and components). Hand loading is the way to go. I have had the occasional box or partial box of factory fodder come through in trades with barrels or rifles but it usually sits around for a bit and then gets traded for brass or given away to my non-handloading friends.

Picture! If this works, the part of the target that is missing is where I was poking at it with the 43 and 43.5 grainers. The 44 grains opened up just to the left. Wind was gusting from the southwest when I started and switched to due east when I finished. I was shooting to the north at about 110 yards.

Very nice--better than what I usually get with a-max but it's a bit hard to tell what's what here. My Axis tends to favor 4064 driving nosler and berger bullets. I like match bullets, but I try to develop loads that I know I can hunt with.

There are a couple of other powders that I would like to try but the Varget was the only one available at the time. I had a 22-250 Remington with a sporter barrel that could really shoot. A lot better than this Savage but she was an older one. 1977 vintage. I could put 3 under a nickle at 250 yards. 4 and 5 would start walking away but that skinny barrel did good with three shot groups. I'm still getting use to this .308. I'll get her figured out.
By the way Sitting Duck, that's some good shootin' kid.
Stick with us & soon, ahhh yes, very soon you too will be the epitome of OCD & Savage Addiction.
PS - lose the Varget & get yourself some real powder. IMR 4895 and / or 4064
(sorry Stang)

BTW No need to ask, I can see your feeling better.

C'mon guys....
Don't discourage him. We don't want him to sell his stuff & take up lawn darts or something.
I say go for that 7 round / one holer. It's out there. Just gotta find it.
Don't be concerned with the OCD or addiction. If it wasn't this it would be cars, guitars, drinking, bicycles, archery, fishing, women, God only knows what else.

I don't know, therm....
We may have to take a vote on it. I think the unwritten rules say a minimum of 7 clean shots showing on raggedy hole without fliers, sighters or test shots.
Oh and, you're not allowed to put the rifle up against the target or anything like that. Gotta be a measured 100yds minimum.
What the heck...
I think we can give it to ya. it'll give the new reloader something to strive for.
Nice shooting by the way.

It says 10 yds--federal matchking 175 : )

Lawn darts.....or "Jarts" are no longer made. That's because people were looking up and getting stuck in the head\eye\chest with those big-arse lawn darts. Shooting is much safer as we have NRA safety programs, plus we keep pounding safety into shooters and it seems to work. Jarts are proven unsafe. Google "Brady campaign against Jarts" and you will know what I mean!!!
Dave
C'mon Dave, we played with lawn darts for years. File the point nice & sharp to throw at each other when we were kids. Nobody ever went home whining to their mommy with a lawn dart sticking out of the top of their head.
Usually.....
