Well I went ahead and coated it. It looks great and we will see if it holds up.
I am cerama coating my action and a few other parts tonight. I have a new McGowan barrel that is bead blasted stainless that doesn't look right next to the shinny barrel nut from NSS. This will not be a switch barrel project, this gun is staying as is once it gets together. So if I coat the nut and then just have to crank it on once will the finish hold up?

I just ceramacoated my gun, and the barrel nut has held up to some abuse. Some over spray got on the threads so I had to lap the threads again. I used jb bore paste, the barrel was wrapped and in a vice, and I use the barrel nut and wrench to clean up the threads. Just small back and forth movements. The point of this post is to say that I spent a good bit of time using the wrench on the nut with the new (cured) coating and it didnt scratch it. I think you should be just fine wrenching down on it.
Gotta say I am pretty impressed by the way it turned out. I have the 2nd batch of parts baking right now.
