Short 6mm's

Thoughts on choosing a short 6mm: 6 X 45, or, 6 X 47 (6 X .204)?

not any help, but I'm going with the 6x45 - mostly because have the dies already, Lapua 223 brass and ordered a barrel as part of the latest 6mm group buy from Gun Shack.

That and I have been wanting one - talking about it for 2-3 years. ;D Oh and I still want to build a 6br on a Target action, but that will have to wait a while...maybe a year or so.

Was considering one in 14-15" for a striker build. Probably no noticable difference in the two?

I have the 6BR and love it. I personally have a hankerin' for a 6mm International (6mm-250 with the shoulder pushed back) since I already have the dies, and it just sounds like fun.

Of the two choices you listed I would say go 6x47 just because you get a tad more powder room and its just a bit more uncommon.

More importanly, what are you going to do with it?
That could make all the diference.
Pesonaly I would not mess with the 6x47 Rem built off of a 222 Mag, or the 6x45 Rem built off of a 223. Evey one I have ever talked to that had one said it was the most finicky thing in the world, and would not stay in tune. If you want a real 6mm paper puncher get a PPC, there is NOTHING better.

Have a striker action and wanted to shoot from the bench and have a little punch for deer in the brush.

I have both a 6x45mm and a 6mm-204. The 6x45mm is a great cartridge, with lots of load data availible. The 6mm-204 is my goto rig for coyotes, I'm running 55gr NBT's and BK's at 3700fps . The 6mm-204 has a grain or two more capacity than the the 6x47mm because the shoulder is moved forward and changed to 30degrees and the body slightly straightenned.

There is alot of data availible for the 6x45mm and it is a very accurate cartridge with lots of cheap brass and dies availible.

The 6mm-204 is a couple hundred FPS faster than the 6x45mm and there is alot of good brass availible, dies need to be custom made or modified. I use a Redding Type S FL Bushing die in 204 Ruger with the expander ball, decapping stem and bushing changed out to 6mm and the top of the die openned to let a larger neck diameter through. I use the same die to load 22-204, 6mm-204 and 25-205 rounds by changing expander ball and bushing. Load data is non-existant so all is worked up using 6x47 Rem and 6mm PPC for insperation.
