At the same time you get the bolt from the hardware store get a nut to fit. Put the nut on the bolt and trim the bolt to the length you want and remove the nut. It will clean off andform the threads back to usable condition. File a small chamfer on the bolt to facilitate reentry into the receiver.

that make life real easy, thanks again. should i put locktight on or no
If it's too long now why buy another one that's too long? Just cut back the one you have with a grinder or file.

"...shall not be infringed" What's the confusion?
Which Boyds did you get? Prairie Hunter or Classic? How do you like what you got and is it walnut or laminate? Did you get the checkering option? I am hoping to put the money together for a Prairie Hunter and have it checkered. Your impression would be appreciated.
Thanks

i did end up cutting down the one i have....i got the thumbhole laminate. no checkering, very comfortable and the whole package is a walking gun with scope. just need a better recoil pad other than what comes with it. i bought another one for a short action off someone here and cant wait to finish that one.
