It doesnt sound too serious to me. If the gouges are at the very rear near where the rim of the cartridge rests just stone it lightly to remove burrs. Take a dowel about a foot long, put a split in one end and add some very fine emery paper, like a 400 to 600 grit by puting it in the split. Insert it into the chamber and attach the dowel to an electric drill. Give it a short burst with the drill, just enough to polish out any burrs. Try it and check the brass again. It should show some improvement. If not your next bet is a good gunsmith.
