I’m almost done with my (budget) light weight .308 deer gun. I had my GS shorten the barrel to 16” then crown & thread for the KVP linear comp. Because of the thin walls, he couldn’t thread for 5/8 x 24, but going with a 1/2 x 28 made it possible. He said there was enough material and it is definitely structurally sound.
Luepold VX Freedom (1.5-4x20) provides a great low-power and pretty decent field of view scope for an up-close brush gun. I almost thought the 20 objective would be too small for these old eyes, but holy $hit - at 1.5-2x you see almost no side walls of the scope tube and its super quick to come up on target with both eyes open. I had a mid-priced 32mm objective lens that didn’t look as good. As a bonus it comes in at a scant 10 ounces! I mounted it with Talley lightweight mounts and added a Butler Creek lightweight sling. I haven’t weighed it yet, but I’m sure its the lightest I’ve ever shot and I’m also sure its going to hammer the crap out of me. Unfortunately the club berms may be frozen so I’ll have to wait until a bit until I can throw some rounds down-range. I think this has turned out to be a really fast handling brush gun. Next: camo paint job with my airbrush...if I can find the damn thing! I’ve got ideas for the pattern, just need to do some test painting. I’ll post when the paint job is completed.
