    Cool My Axis 6.5cm tweaks

    hi all,

New to the forum, but posting my progress of a few easy tweaks to a stock rifle. Pics to come. Owned this rifle for a few months now and have roughly 80 rounds though it between the range and deer hunting.

First was to take a jewelers file and smoothed over the trigger components, removing the burrs and imperfections left behind. This smoothed out the trigger feel significantly.

Second, in combination with the first, I upgraded to the mcarbo Savage AXIS Pro Trigger Kit. This lightened the trigger and took out the play. Now properly greased and worked over, the trigger is amazing compared to the stock gritty mess.

Third, I had a problem with the magazine staying seated. The rear of the mag has that small tab that just wasn't sufficient to grab and hold the tab on the stock. If you pressed the magazine down from inside the action, the rear would pop out and allow the magazine to fall. After a few attempts, i found a solid solution. I inserted the mag into the stock and marked its location. I took jb weld and shaped a new larger tab onto the magazine. This has resolved all my magazine related issues.

Forth, my stock came with imbedded posts, but they're not quite perfect. One was pretty good, but the other was below the stock surface. I smoothed out the plastic around the posts and removed/sanded all the imperfections in between. I then shaped a washer to fill the gap between the stock and action.

Fifth, in combination with the forth, I taped off the barrel and took a strip of sand paper between the barrel and stock to match and fully free float. The stock was touching beforehand. The work done to the stock really firmed up the slighly wonky factory stock and now feels solid in the hands.

Sixth, in stock form, the bolt contacts the scope during cycling. I have a full length picatinny rail on order that should provide enough highth clearance, but if not, I'll order taller scope rings for the stock weaver scope to address this issue.

The idea is to get the most value for the buck out of the already budget friendly rifle. And I'm sure more will come as I get more time with it.
