Yup, another crappy Savage (Model 11 FXP3 in .243 Win) with the typical Savage look (kind of ugly). Bought it used at a gun show in February, 2016, for $295 out the door. Didn't expect much and originally planned to rebarrel it to 6.5 CM.

Was at the range yesterday working up an elk load for SIL's bro's Savage .270 Win. (He is in the Navy but currently plans to hunt elk with us this fall). Took my Ruger .257 Roberts and the Savage .243 Win to have something to shoot while the .270 cooled and to check their zero and long-range ballistics in preparation for Wyoming antelope in October.

After shooting the first set of loads for the .270 Win, I fired a single 100g TTSX from the Roberts. It chrono'd 3198fps and landed 3" high and dead center horizontally at 100 yards. Next shot was a 110g AB on a called jerk. It chrono'd 3108fps and landed 1-7/8" high and 7/8" left. Next (and last at 100) shot with the AB was 2-7/8" high and 1/8" left, touching the 100g TTSX hole. Later I shot at 600 and was banging the 10" steel at will with both bullets but couldn't quite hit the 4" steel. Oh, well.

Tried the Savage 11 next. 95g SST shot a 3-shot 0.712" group, 90g BT shot a 3-shot 0.872" group. The two groups overlapped to form a 6-shot 0.926" group. I checked out bullet drops at 500 and 600. As with the .257 Roberts, banging the 10" steel at 600 was no challenge with either bullet but the 4" eluded me. Works for me.
