Since I have caught the fever with building these things I thought I would start a thread to show the evolution of a build.

This one started out as a 110 chambered in 30-06 that I found at a gunshow for $200. There were a few spots of surface rust that I had to take care of but it cleaned up really well.

I'm a fan of the 30-06 but the age of this rifle with the condition it was in and the unknown round count was unsettling to my perfectionist side. I found an unfired take-off 300 WM barrel on the electronic bay that I snagged for under $100 shipped. I found a good deal on a complete stainless steel magnum bolt minus extractor at Numrich so I picked that up. I also decided to try out a CDI DM setup. Ordered the bottom metal and sent the stock in to be inletted. Super nice people over at CDI. They recommended installing pillars into the stock since so much material needed to come out during the inletting.

The inletting came out perfect with just a little fitting required to make it all work together. My cousin had a shotgun he wanted to duracoat so we split a kit of OD green. Finish came out really nice but it was a lot more glossy than I would have preferred.

That rifle had a cheap scope base on it that I didn't care for in that picture. It has since been replace with an EGW which is a super nice base.

The laminated stock was really bulky and the bottom metal sat up in it farther than I liked after the DBM was installed so I decided to rework the stock. I stripped it with a spray on stripping agent and went at it with a rasp and belt sander. I got it thinned out and fit to the bottom metal the way I wanted and then started putting on many coats of tung oil finish. I don't have any pictures of the current setup but I'll snap a few and put them in here later.
