First gun I ever shot was my Dads 1904 Savage single shot bolt action 22 up on the Alberta prairie when I was 12. Have shot a few pistols, some shotguns and some milsurp rifles since then but decided I wanted to build something with some range, and a scope (the old eyesight isn't quite what it was in the days of the 1904). In the process of looking at Remingtons and of course Savages, I came across an unmolested Savage 30-06"Chieftain" (circa 1974-1978, S/N prefix B) with the original hand checkered, high comb walnut Monte Carlo stock. Kind of rough, but it was mostly there and the price was right. So my build turned into a restoration. So now, 52 years later, I get to shoot another wonderful Savage rifle, and am still looking for my “builder”.
