My son and I have been practicing for a while for an F/TR match. Sunday was his 1st match. This was his first rifle match ever, however he does shoot a lot and is a very, very good shot. So I at least thought it would not be a horrible experience. He was shooting a Savage 10BA, using 175 SMK.

We had been out to 800 yards before shooting steel but never gone this distance, he got off to a rough start. We had shot in a 15 MPH wind last time out and I don't think I came back to zero on the windage. So we wasted some ammo. After finally getting sighted in, he was shooting pretty consistent 8's, three 9's in a row, some 10's and some 6's and 7's when the wind picked up. Finally, got an X on his 2nd to last shot. The wind picked up towards the end and he did all his own windage and elevation corrections himself on the target. His best relay was 162-1X which I thought was pretty darn good for a 14 year old, 1st time at 1,000 yards! I was proud!
