Went to the range to test out my first handloads for my 1946 model 99. All rounds were with new Winchester brass, Winchester large rifle primers and 150 grain FMJ pull down bullets. First load was 40.0 grains of IMR4064 which shot 1 inch groups with my bad eyes. The rounds hit where pointed and recoil was very nice, average speed was 2503 fps. The second round was 40.0 grains of IMR4895 which shot slightly tighter with an average speed of 2632 fps. The third round was 40.0 grains of Varget which shot 2 " to the left and about a 2" grouping, with an average speed of 2624 fps. The last round was 42.0 grains of Reloader 15 which shot 3 " to the left but a very tight 1 ' grouping, with an average speed of 2680 fps. All shooting was done on a windless bright sunny day at 70 F. I think for me with my gun, the IMR4895 gave the best overall, so it will be my powder of choice for 150 grain bullets. What are your loads for the 300?
