55's do very well for me in 8 & 9 twists.
Courious as to what bullets most of you
are finding to be the most accurate in your 223's with this twist..
I guess maybe as far as what weight..
Thanks..
55's do very well for me in 8 & 9 twists.
I use 69 SMK's, TMK's, 73 Bergers but still haven't tried 77 SMK's that are reputed to shoot very well out of an 8 twist 223.
Right now my most accurate load is 53 grain V-Max over IMR 3031 in a 9 twist Savage. Smallest 5 shot group to date is .036" at 100 yds. Typically shoots in the low to mid .1's but only when my son, with his much younger eyes is the subbing for the nut behind the bolt
Hornady 68gr mhpbt and varget have worked well for me
I want to shoot the 80gr eld-m. Still deciding on 1:8 or 1:7.
Greatly appreciate your replies..
IMO and based upon my own testing
For Berger 80's, the recommended twist is 1:7
Berger 73's are just fine with a 1:8 twist.
I've shot 80 grain SMKs in my 8 twist 223 AI with very good results. It's a toss up between them and the 77 grain SMK.....
