Tried the Varmint Nightmares in 3 different .223's each one opened up about 1/4" at 100yds. over what they normally shoot.
I now shoot Hornady Z-Max, 58.00/500. at Midsouth. If they ever get back in stock i'll pick up another 1000.
For the 223 does anyone have experience with the Midsouth Varmint Nightmare ($41 / 500) or the Midway Dogtown ($64 / 500 ) bullets? Looking for a good high-volume shooter that shoots decent; not match grade but good for practice out to 300yd . Any other candidates out there? Seems like I read Nosler makes the Dogtown but Idon't know about the Nightmare.

I've used the Midway Dogtown bullets out of one of my ARs. They were MOA or just under and for 300 yards and closer would do fine. Beyond that, I prefer Sierra Blitz Kings or Nosler BTs for varmint bullets. For bulk plinking, it's hard to beat the price of the Midway bullets, though.
You are OK if you don't exceed 3,000fps. I tried some in my FVSS and they were probably 3200fps or so. Most of the bullets didn't make the target. Either keyholed or just disintegrated.

I got the 34 dogtown to try in my AR for a PD load. It has a 9 twist barrel. The ar has tons of freebore so I attribute that to how poorly short bullets shoot in it. I have most of a box of 100 you can have if you send me your address. You may want to go with the heaveir bullets though, I think they are 55s. Correct me if I am wrong. I stick mostly with 60 vmax since it does much better than any other bullet in that gun.
I used the 55gr Dogtown in my 243 and they vaporized on the way to the 100 yard target. Looked like gray tracers.
Looks like my question is out of date since you can't find any of these today! I was able to get a 500 box of 69SMK from Powder Valley, and I know they shoot well.
