2 good whacks on nut wrench with a claw hammer so i guess 2+2lbs hammer = 2 hammer pounds.
Did a lot of searching and found a wide variety of answers. Lots in the 35-40 lbs range and some in the 70-100 lbs range. My question is directed toward those with personal experience in swapping barrels. I want to know what ft/lbs range gave you the most accuracy.

Just because you have read different answers doesn't mean that they were wrong or inexperienced.
The correct answer is, "enough to stay tight". Different torque will not affect accuracy.
I use a different torque setting than earl. I use- "snug plus a bit".

This is a GREAT answer, and all you need.Originally Posted by geargrinder
Thats all i do. Snug it up so the action wont turn, cuz all i use is a barrel vise and nut wrench, and two or three sharp raps with my ball peen sets the nut and i havent had one loosen yet.
Plus it makes removing the nut easy when u wanna switch barrels.......if u dont swap barrels like that......give it some time......u will eventually......haha

Thank you for the replys.
I started with just simply tight as the origional plan but the more you read into stuff the more your curious if it would make a difference. I have access to a torque wrench so I was just searching through my options.
it should be noted that I hold the action in my hand and use no barrel vise.Originally Posted by earl39

I use my hands to snug up the barrel nut wrench towards the action wrench and call it good. If I can't squeeze them any closer with moderate effort it is tight enough.
