    243 Powder Choice

What's a good powder for 243 pushing 105gr bullets? Currently using IMR4350 but doesn't fill the case. Considering IMR4831.

You may want to look at Hodgdon Hybrid 100V along with H4831 SC.

Read a little about it. Do you have experience with it?

Yup. I don't suggest specific loading data to people online, but I have had very good results with 100V in several cartridges that work well with 4350 or 4931. The burning rate is right in the middle and it measures easily. Check out the Hodgdon website. http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

    kd,
H4831sc is the most consistent powder I've tried with 105Amax. Been using it as my "go to" heavy bullet powder for about 3 years now in the 243 Win........Gives a fairly full case I get little vertical in my groups....I use Varget on the lighter bullets (but I don't shoot many of them).

Hi a full house of rl22 will get you to that magic 3000 fps number,
or supreme 780 if hogdon is your fancy,
they have the same burn rate.

I've used IMR4350, H4350, IMR4320, but the most accurate has been AA4064 for me.

Never shot the 105gr. bullet, my twist won't spin them, but I've had great results with Supreme 780 in 95's and 100's. Excellent accuracy and velocity.

    Re: 243 Powder Choice

Would have to be a 65gr vmax at the most to get that velocity.

I started loading Retumbo with 105 Amax's a few years back, verygood results out to 600 yards. They kill Deer pretty darn good also. Since then we have loaded Retumbo and H1000 and shot very tight out to 850 yards under a 105 Amax. I've loaded some Ramshot Big Game under 100 gr BTSP's that show promise out to 300 yards.

Has anyone used the Sierra 105's successfully (well-stabilized) with a standard 9.25 twist? I've got a Model 10 Predator Max 1 with 24" barrel.

    Thanks,

    Re: 243 Powder Choice

I've tried H1000 and RL22 using 105 amax. RL22 had better results; better SD and ES with average velocity of 3050 fps out of 26" model 12 with 9.25" twist; groups 1/2 the size of H1000.

Anybody use IMR 7828 or 7828SSC? I have a box of 105's that I was going to try with H1000 and 7828SSC. I have H4831SC as well, but I'm thinking it might be a touch too fast.

    Re: 243 Powder Choice

Hi the H1000 and IMR7828 are very slow powders, so you can do a full case 44-46gr will get around 2900 fps, as far as the H4831 It's a little faster so I would start at 41gr and 2800 fps and creep up from there.
