wanting to swap barrels. can I choose a different caliber?

I have a LRPV. Right now its 22-250. I was wondering if there are any other calibers this action will take?

Here ya go. Anything with a casehead of .473(or slightly less) will fit with your bolt as it is. The good thing about the target action is it is a single shot and you dont have to worry about a magazine swap. With a simple 5 minute bolthead change you can fit anything with a .378 casehead or a .532 casehead.

So basically the sky is the limit.

Heres a link with the caseheads of various cartridgesthis info is also found in the FAQ section in the centerfire area of our forum.)

The 6.5-.284 Win. is incorrect on this list, it is .473" (rebated) the same as the .284 Win., not .5" as stated.

Re: wanting to swap barrels. can I choose a different caliber?

Guys, I have been searching and reading. Im looking for a 500 - 1000 yard round. I use this gun for groundhog patrol, but when I go to my range, we have 1000yrds. The 22-250 just sucks at 1000 :) I see a lot of guys shooting 6mm at the range. Do you think the 6 BR is a good choice? I dont care about energy as any round will roll Punxsutawney Phil. I do care about barrel life and it seems the 6 is a bit nicer. I thank you guys for your info.

6.5mm will give you the ballistic coefficient. I'd think about something in .260 Remington but I don't know if that will clear your mag well.

Go 260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor. The Creedmoor might be a better choice if you are feeding out of a box magazine. The shorter case length of the creedmoor will allow you seat bullets further out. Brass for the creemoor is better quality as well.

Actually either one feeds well out of a mag. You can seat 260 bullets out pretty far before it becomes an issue. Quality brass for the 260 is available now and it can also be made out of 308, 243, and 7mm-08 brass as well. Both are good choices.

Yes, I do realize the original post is old but I was responding to this last reply.

The 308 will fit and has a very long barrel life compared to the others. 1k yds is streching a 308. A 6br or a 6 Dasher is also a good choice, but brass is expensive compared to a 308. Barrel life on these three are good and so is brass life, especially the 6br.

I do like the 6.5x47 shooting 120 smk's. Barrel life is decent on the 6.5x47. Now a 6.5x284 will definetly do the job, but it's a barrel burner.

1k yds . . . my choice would be the 6.5x47 or the 6.5x284, with the right bullet both will get the job done. The 6 Dasher is also in the group, but a little harder to prep brass.

    JMO, good luck

It will work just fine. You might have to tweak the feed lips a bit for the shorter case, but chances are, it will be ok.

Good job searching for your answer, but you could have started a new thread with your questions.
