    Switching bolts?

I have a hunter-type Savage short action that I plan to use to build a 6.5x47m Lapua; already have the barrel, go gage, and stock.
Lately, I've been thinking about buying a barrel chambered in 223 AI and using it with the action and stock that I already have.
Can I safely use another bolt with a .223 bolt face (assuming the proper headspace gage) with this action?
    Options?
    Thanks.

Yes, but the front baffle on the 223, from the factory anyway, has a longer leg on the right-hand side compared to the 308 bolt head. I'll have a new 223 bolt head and front baffle soon if you want to trade for your 308 bolt head and baffle. I need to build a rifle soon, and I need the 308 parts.

    Re: Switching bolts?

SSS had something to say about that a while back and his advise was to switch bolt heads.
Cant remember what the explanation was.

That said, I have done it and never has a problem.
It is really easy to swap a bolt head.
