On my Model 10 I have a 8-34 FFP scope and at full magnification the reticle covers and hides the bull. With the 10-40 at 300yards I can see 22cal bullet holes in the paper. It's a ton of fun and with the 223 relatively inexpensive.

This is my bench rested toy. A Winchester 52D with a 25X Lyman SuperTargetSpot scope. Is a hoot to shoot with a 1 ounce trigger. And the recoil is acceptable. That is a five shot target.
