    I had thought about adding some lead to that area :)

    Can be beneficial at the Bench. Could add to discomfort if carried in the field.

    Yep, I don't carry anything but a pistol in the field anymore.

    So no harm in adding some bedding material there?

    As long as the bedding doesn’t touch the barrel or stress it any way, it’s fine. However, I wouldn’t expect any kind of benefit from this.

    If You want to add stiffness without weight, You could glass a length of carbon fiber tube in there. Drill holes in it for bite.

    If You want to add stiffness and weight, You could glass a length of All Thread in there.

    I use Pollyester Resin for these jobs. It’s easier and cheaper than Bedding Material.
