The Nosler is the same pressure as the 280AI and the 270 Win but with a whole, whole lot more powder capacity. I have not seen an Axis offered in the 280AI or even for any magnum cartridges either.
I have two rebarreled Axis rifles, one in 243 and the other in 6.5 CM. Now I know Savage makes a 280 AI Axis and was wondering if the action was strong enough to put a 28 Nosler barrel on it. It should have the magnum bolt face already. These are just thoughts in my head. Thanks, Joe

The Axis does NOT have a magnum bolt face from the factory. Note that the 280AI does not use a magnum bolt face. It is a 'std' case head from the Rem 280.
Some have used magnum bolt faces in the Axis (see the stickies). That is the real stumbling block here since the Nosler needs the larger bolt face.
The 'strength' of the action is basically the same as the 110 series. Same barrel dimensions, same bolt lugs same steel in receiver.
Thanks for the info. For some reason I thought 280 AI was a magnum bolt face. The 280 AI is made in a Axis II. Joe
The Savage “Maxis” (Magum Axis) has been done. https://imgur.com/gallery/M7GO6
Not for nothing, but you are better off just going 110 Magnum unless you just really, really the Axis, or just want to do it as a project like the link I posted.
That Maxis is a beautiful gun. These were just thoughts in my head. The current gun I'm shooting is a model 10 rebarreled in .260 Rem. with a Shilan barrel. Joe
That’s a twin to mine.
