375 Ruger in a Flat Back receiver

    Good evening,
I am a fan of flat back receivers. There is a lot of nostalgia in hunting and I've had one for over 35 years. I am now in a position to collect / build a series. They will be right handed, blind magazine, wood stocked and blued steel. Most will be on a 06 case (25, 280, 30, 8 or 338, Whelen (35, 38, and hopefully 400) with the skinniest barrel I can convince someone to make.

I would really like one big one in 375 Ruger, but I am not certain that can be done. I know that ll of the flat receivers have small shanks, can you put a Ruger chamber reamer into a small shank barrel? As I understand it, the chosen rifle should start as a Magnum due to the unavailability of magazines, is there anything else I should consider in choosing the donor rife?

    Thanks for the help!

The Small shank receiver is just fine with the 375 Ruger. Several have done it.

    Great,
Just what I want to hear. I think a 20 inch barreled 375 will be just the ticket if I ever have to take on a brontosaurus.

Just make sure you make it heavy enough. I have a factory model 116 in 375 Ruger. It was extremely light and I got a major eye brow cut the first time I shot it. A little more weight and a scope with longer eye relief and it is much more manageable now. That thing is pretty fierce in a 7 pound rifle though.

That’s the case with any of the Super /Ultra Magnums with no Brake.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I did have a brake made for mine too. Now weighing around 12 pounds, a brake, and a scope with plenty of eye relief, it's very manageable now.
