Safe loads for my Springfield 311 sxs

Based on what I've read so far on the net, it's probably not a good idea for me to shoot anything in my old Springfield 311 double-barrel shotgun but low base shotshells, 1 and 1/8 ounce payload and less. I once thought about taking my 311 turkey hunting because my grandfather killed a turkey "back in the day" using what was probably a Savage Group double (wasn't that the double most guys used back in the 30s and 40s?) but have now decided against that as I can use something else and don't want to beat the old gun up. So far, all I've ever run through my 311 has been low-base and it has done fine. I even used the right barrel with a Remington Nitro trap shell to shoot the longest-distance squirrel in my life. Any thoughts/comments/opinions, anyone? I really like this gun...it's so "farm gun" that I can almost hear the theme from The Waltons going in my mind every time I pick it up!

A Springfield 311 is a Savage/Stevens 311 by another name. If it locks up tight any 2&3/4" shotshell is safe in it.
