Are there any disadvantages to using a long action for a 308 build. I have a Stevens 200 in 300 mag and want to use it as a basis to build a 300 yard competitive shooter. We have an F class shoot at just this range and I'd like to use this as an action for a build.
None that I can think of. The long action will give you more versatility if you wanted to switch to another caliber that will take the long action. Depending on the type of action you should have more stock choices available to you: left bolt, right bolt, dbm, ect. Otherwise your stock choices would remain equally versatile.

There is no difference in accuracy wise between a long or short action. The long action does give you more of a caliber versatility as mentioned above. The long actions have less pre-fit aftermarket stock availability, but in custom stocks this is not a problem. The short actions have a right bolt left port or dual port option that is super nice, but I find I can feed my standard action from the left just as easy.
Will the mag bolt face work with the 308?

No Sir you'll need a this: 103966 BOLT HEAD, RH, STD if you have a small firing pin. (Just bought one this is how I know this)
