The Army was undecided between the Colt and Savage as the final two competators and ordered 200 of each for field testing; and for some reason Savage backed out.

The little Kolibri(?) guy is sweet.
Actually Savage did deliver 200 pistols in 45 to the Army for field testing. The Savage pistol lost in the end, but they fought for it all the way through. The military testing did probably result in Savage introducing the civilian line of 32 and 380 pistols, so it definitely wasn't wasted effort.

And those are beautiful guns! Congrats!
