I tried modifying a lug and never had the results I wanted. Ended up buying one, if you have a slotted barrel but you will need a new one also.

Tried search , not finding the answer. Going to place a 12FV assembly in to an Accu-Fit Accu-Stock. Understand that the recoil lug will not fit the aluminum rail with-out modification or replacement. Would require the tools to remove and replace the barrel, replacement nut & proper lug and Go/NoGo gauges. Cheaper route would be to modify the existing lug while still installed. Is there a templete available to follow or just go slow and free-hand it? Have die grinders, carbide burrs, grinding and cut-off wheels and files as needed. Would a lug alignmemt tool work as a gauge or are they just for general alignment.

I modified a standard recoil lug into a accustock recoil lug, but I did remove it first. You could modify without removing, but you will have to take precaution when removing material from the lug to not contact the receiver and/or barrel nut. The accu "lug" has parallel sides not angled like the standard lug and is a little shorter. The standard lug is also a little thicker than the acculug, so you will have to widen the lug opening front to back in the stock. I would think it can be done without removing the lug, like you said "go slow".
Of course the easiest way would be to buy an acculug, but if you don't have the tools for disassembly/reassembly, doesn't do much good.

You can get the Accu-Rail lug from MidwayUSA. Blued = $6.76 / Stainless = $13.99
