    Federal changed its primer compound

The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

    Funny how marketing works
ATK, and now Avista Outdoors(who owns Federal) has played with various non-lead priming compounds for at least 30 years(partially referenced in the end of the article). The trouble is with lifespan. Lead styphanate is just flat stable. The various others have all had some serious storage short commings, such as less than a couple year lifespan; which is a pretty good reason for "Their customers"(the military) to not take them seriously.

Will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Not sure if the Oxide part is the correct compound, but some Bismuth compounds are part of what General Dynamics uses to tie-up copper fouling in SMP-842 used in the military "green" ammo project. For the reloader, that powder is known as CFE223. Also curious to see how the aluminum plays out. That stuff is going to get oxidized in the firing event, and no one should need reminded how brutally abrasive aluminum oxide is on things.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.
