This has been a great read. Like OP I purchased a 110 30-06 at a pawn shop. Working on changing to 25-06.
I know it's not my thread but I still want to say thanks to everyone for the replies.

Hope yours works out for you.
Still workin on some good loads for mine, but that is the joy of getting a rifle.
Haven't started mine yet. Just been doing research. Trying to figure out what barrel to go with mainly and stock. I did pull trigger and bolt apart and clean them up real good

No experience with a .25-06, but my .257 Roberts gets 3233 fps with a 100g TTSX, +P brass and load and 48.0g H4350. The 110g AB does 3161fps with 46.5g H4350. Elk load is 120g Swift A-Frame @ 2947fps using 47.5g H4831SC. 22" barrel.
Nosler and Hornady both list 100g at 3300fps or over with 24" barrel.
Have long thought the .25-06 was one of the best dual-purpose cartridges, prairie dogs to deer, and they have been used to take a lot of elk. Not the best choice for high-volume varminting but great for the occasional long range shot and coyotes.
My .257 Roberts quickly became my favorite rifle. It has taken a lot of coyotes and antelope. Daughters love it for the light recoil. All three shoot but only two hunt and they both used it to take their first big game animals (WY antelope).
Saw a really nice bull elk hanging that was taken with a .25-06 and 117g Hornady. The shooter was a young lady 13 years old. She had a nice mulie buck hanging, too.
So far mine looks like it's going to like the 117 hdy bt. Hear it is a good bullet. Maybe a little much for yotes though.
True. I guess i should have clarified: "too much" as they're probably not very fur friendly if i want to save the pelt.
You got a steal.
As to a .25-06, I would recommend getting a 6.5-06 instead, although you will probably have to go with a new barrel to do so. (I recommend a 1-8 twist.) Much better bullet selection for the 6.5-06, better external ballistics and still a very mild recoil. I went with 6.5-06AI when i built my custom 6.5 (Interarms Mark X action) and am very happy with it.
Don't overlook trying some H4831sc. I've been having good luck with it and 110gr Hornady ELD-X. Running right around 3100fps.
