People sell 6.5-284's when the barrel is gone. About 600 - 800 rds
I recently bought a Used Savage model 12 bench rest in 6.5x284. After it arrived I cleaned it and started to set up some test cartridges. I normally set my COAL at .003-.005 off the lands. For this i am using Hornady 140 grain ELDx. The closest I could get was about .3 from the lamds and the bullet is so far out, it won’t stay in the case which is a definite no go. I am thinking this barrel is shot out, but I have no experience with this cartridge or this rifle.
I am am looking for thoughts and recommendations on this. Is this normal, is it safe if if I go with recommended COAL, if barrel is shot out barrel recommendations.
thanks in advance.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
I might convert to 6mm br
Nice choice or a 6 Creedmoor or 6.5 Creedmoor for easy to find components.

I might have a 6.5x284 barrel, brand new. I will have to pull it out tomorrow and get the spec's.
The 6.5x284 is a great long range competition round. It is very hard on the barrel, thus barrel life is short.
It's also a popular round with hunters.
I will let you know what I stumble across tomorrow.

I like that 6.5-06ai is a little more gentile on throats, and well it depends on how it gets shot, that high volume shooting in a short time span really eats on things. The Creedmore really is much nicer on the throat
Dennis,
Your inbox if full. Please PM me regarding your available barrels.
Banning a gun will not solve what is a mental health crisis inflamed by incendiary rhetoric on social and television media. The first amendment in this case is less precious and more likely the causal factor than the second amendment.
There’s a great deal on a new 6.5 barrel on eBay right nowc
Could be just a really long throat. I have one that I can't touch the lands on but it still shoots .2". I have two .223 Rem from Savage, one is short throated and the other I guess starts rifling halfway down the barrel.
More shooting, less typing.
I have a .204 Savage BVSS that has .200 jump, still shoots well out to 400 yards though.
