Greetings from snowy Michigan! I recently purchased my first Savage rifle, an Axis II in 6.5 Creedmoor, with hopes of upgrading the stock and scope. My problem to date has been trying to figure out whether the Boyd's AT-One stock was going to allow the Axis II barreled action to drop in. Seems to be conflicting information on the web. One site says the only difference between the Axis and the II is the trigger, another says the whole action is different. Hope someone here can set me straight. Boyds just says that I should be sure the Axis II fits a stock that's made for the Axis. Uh huh.
Thanks!
Axis and Axis II has IDENTICAL action.
I have the same rifle. I called Boyds they told me it would fit.

to hijack my own thread: how about AT-One for Axis II? anyone try it yet? and...
Metal trigger guard? from Boyds?
I just browsed the website and it appears that the At-one is compatible with the Axis line... And according to Foxx above, the Axis and Axis II are the same. So it should work. As for the metal trigger guard, I just ordered it from savage directly. I did not realize that I could order the metal trigger guard from Boyds at the time.
I found it to be a significant upgrade once I pillar bedded the action. You get a much more consistent torque on the rear action screw then using the plastic one.
Welcome
Perpetual Optimism is a force Multiplier....
here's what I got from Boyds:
I recently bought a 6.5 Creedmoor chambered Savage Axis II rifle, and would like to drop the action into one of your AT-One stocks. I don't want to make a mistake, so please let me know if I need to order the trigger guard 10061.Thanks,

I'm not sure I understand. The AT-one stock is for the Axis, not the Axis 2? ...

to me
Hello,We do not have stocks available for the Axis 2. Only the Axis. You will have to contact Savage to see what the difference between models are to be sure this will fit for what you need. I do apologize for the inconvenience.
Thank you

so, since I'm not enthused about spending money for a product that the supplier isn't sure about...
any more kind and gentle users want to chime in with their practical experience?
Thanks a bunch so far- appreciate it!
My Boyd's fits snug on the aluminum block/trigger assembly. I just wiggle it in, make sure everything cycles and tighten the action screws. This is on a pro varmint stock, axis 2. Works for me.
Hey John, is your Axis II a standard profile barrel or a bull barrel? I have one with the bull barrel and I’m curious if it would work. What is the difference in price for the trigger guard from Savage and the trigger guard from Boyd’s? I’m still confused rather the matte trigger guard on Boyd’s site is plastic or metal cause they advise when you buy one of their stocks you get a plastic trigger guard and if you want a metal one you must order the stainless one listed in their accessories section. Thanks in advance, Matt.
Well I actually just have the one that came with the stock unfortunately it is plastic but was free with the stock I thought it came with a metal trigger gaurd from the video I watched but I hear they do offer the metal one also

The way I read it it said if you want a metal trigger guard a stainless one is available on the accessories page. When I went over there and looked there’s a stainless one and a matte black one. The only info given is that they are exactly as originals. Well, if the original is plastic I can’t see buying another! I never realized there was such a steep learning curve to this whole aftermarket stock situation :) .
If it were easy, ANyBODy could do it!!
whoops! didn't read carefully enough. I'm betting the difference in price from boyds and savage is insignificant though
You’re probably right. I guess this is why we find this kind of stuff so intriguing you think? Who knew just simply buying a stock could be so complicated!!
So curious has anyone figured out if a Axxis II will fit in a AT-ONE???
Thanks
Only difference is the trigger...
Okay, opinion noted. Can you elaborate? Thanks!
It's not an opinion. That's really the only difference between an Axis and an Axis II. I would be shocked if the inletting on the At-One is different from any of Boyds other stocks, and all of Boyds' Axis stocks will fit the Axis II.
Axis and Axis II are identical in all respects except the Axis II has the Accutrigger and the Axis has a standard trigger. All other parts and profiles are the same. Any stock that fits one will fit the other.
The original Axis model came with a traditional trigger. Some people prefer the Accutigger and therefore, one morning Savage decided to offer the Axis with an Accutrigger... That afternoon they introduced Axis II. The Axis II has an Accutrigger.
It's nothing mysterious or marketting hype. It's simply a label.
Axis models come from factory with standard trigger. Axis II comes from factory with Accutrigger. In all other respects, they are the same rifle.
Not everyone at Boyds know this, but Boyds makes stocks for the Axis AND Axis II. If someone at Boyds says otherwise, it is only because they dont know that the AXIS AND AXIS II are IDENTICAL on EVERY RESPECT EXCEPT THE TRIGGER and the choice of trigger for the Axis does NOT change the stock design or inletting or anything else for the Axis.
When shopping for aftermarket stocks for the AXIS II, simply IGNORE the "II" in "Axis II".
With that being said, and not to highjack the thread, but foxx you may know as well as anybody. The aluminum trigger housing on the Axis II is different than the one on the Axis. At least it appears to be. Not dimensionally external, but it is different. I bought an accutrigger group the other day based on the gunsmithing article on this website and I got to thinking. Instead of grinding the trigger down, why not get the correct trigger housing? The accutrigger I bought had the trigger spring not lining up with the pocket in the housing and there is no hole in the pocket for the little “tittie’ that the accutrigger spring has on it. Two reasons I decided to just try and buy the housing. That and the sear spring from the article is different. As you know the Axis has an external type spring on the aluminum housing. The sear I bought had no provision to hold that spring onto it. If I could get a part number for the aluminum Axis II trigger housing that would be great! Once again John, sorry to highjack. Back to regularly scheduled programming.
^^^I am not following everything you're saying, Chewy.
Accutriggers may need to be altered a bit to fit the trigger housing. They have "bumps" on either side that need to be ground down a bit so they fit the housing. No big deal. MAYBE Axis II trigger housings have clearance for these "bumps", or the triggers are made without the "bumps", IDK. Either way, it really does not matter. The "bumps" serve no purpose. If there are differences with the Axis and Axis II trigger housing to accommodate a tag on the spring and bumps on the Accutrigger's sides, I am not aware of them, but they do not affect the stock.
I have successfully installed Accutriggers taken from Model 10/110's onto Axis models MANY times successfully. I have not bothered to change the sear on any of them, perhaps I should, (so as to avoid damaging the sear with multiple strikes against the Accutriger safety blade) but it's not a big deal if it's not abused. Similarly, the Accutrigger's spring has a tab on the top, but it is not absolutely necessary that it be used and inserted into a hole for retention. The tab can be removed with no ill effects on performance.
When I say the ONLY difference between Axis and Axis II is the Axis II has the Accutrigger, all other parts are the same, I mean all the parts associated with the Accutrigger are also different, but the differences are small and have no effect on any other parts not associated with the trigger.
In any event, the AXIS and AXIS II use the SAME stocks. (and actions and barrels and trigger guards and action screws, etc. )
