HANDLOADS FOR SAVAGE 110 in 30-06

I have a new 110 in 30-06. I am working up handloads. So far 165 gr hornady btsp & win 760 produces the best group, but just getting started. I was surprised the rifle likes 760 more than what it likes either of the 4350 powders. Does anyone have any load suggestions?

I have a Stevens 200 CF-LA I "Customized" (if you wanna go that far). I put a better trigger in it and NSS recoil lug and rebarreled it with a new Savage SS 22" 30-06 in Magnum Contour off of a 116. Has 1:10 twist. My pet load right now is 180gr Sierra SBT Gameking over RL19 seated to touch the lands and very light crimp. It will do 1" easy at 100yds. Have had one group just over .5" at 100.
My buddy shoots a Rem 710 30-06 (no he doesn't own any Savages, yes he's still my buddy) and we have had good luck with a 150gr SST over RL15 seated to 3.340 OAL. With me behind it, it will do 1" at 100, with him behind it it will do 2". He's one of those guys that shoots Minute-Of-Deer. He probably shoots 20 rounds a year, just to check it before the season. I have tried the SST load in my gun and it works good in mine also, but I wanted something heavier since I shoot 150's outta my 308.

I would recommend the RL19 and RL15, Varget has also done good in the past but I switched to RL15 and RL19 when Varget got real scarce and I have been just as happy if not happier. If you want my exact receipes shoot me a PM and I'll go look them up outta my log book, since it isn't right handy.

For me IMR 4350 with 165 grain bullets produce top velocity accuracy. I have also used RL 22 and find it accurate but it does not produce the speed.

It's odd, but I've been using IMR 4350 quit a bit lately in my .308 Winchester & 260 Remington and getting very good accuracy. But in my 30-06 I've gotten better accuracy with IMR 4064. Best accuracy - not highest velocity, and that's with Nosler 168 gr Ballistic Tips. With 150 gr. bullets IMR 4350 works best. I've got some RL19 too but still haven't tried it yet

IMR-4350 has always been my best powder for 06. Never seen one that it didn't
at least shot decent in. IMR-4064 is also good use, it in auto's i've had.
My favorite loads are,
150gr. Nosler
57.5gr. IMR-4350

165gr.anything
57gr. IMR-4350

as always start lower and work up.

My isn't too bad. It does OK with the Federal bulk pack stuff, .75" and 50yds easy, but it really likes the Remington Subsonic stuff. I have gotten .4's at 50yds, and usually under an inch at 100. Mine is the light barrel non-accutrigger, and the trigger is pretty stiff, i would guess over 6lbs pull. I am sure that there are 22LR's that do better, but I got mine for plinking cans, squirrels, and just something for the ol'lady and kid to use.I think i should have gotten the Mark II-FV, I think the heavier barrel and Accutrigger would have made a huge difference. I know if I am shooting the cheap bulk pack stuff I better run a brush and patch down her cuz if residue in there starts building up accuracy go down hill pretty fast after 75 to 100 rounds.

As far as my 30-06 loads, I stopped with what I got cuz I was planning on it being a 200yd back up deer gun and not a bench gun, I figured .5 to 1" was plenty good enough for off-hand shooting. I figured I would spend more time fine tuning the Target guns ;D

I been using 165gr Speer BTSP with either IMR-4350 or Win 760 depending on which one was available when I went to buy powder.

I never did try to turn my old heavy 1917 Enfield into a tack driver as it was for deer hunting so if it kept all shots in a 4 inch circle at 200 yards I was happy as most shots were well under 200 yards.
