That would be a nice start to any collection!
Found what looks like a 1950 99EG at a local gunsmith. Overall looks in fair shape, needs a really good cleaning (barrel copper fouled) and in the photo, I notice what looks like a possible crack in the stock at the butt.
I'm a Marlin lever action guy mostly, but my Dad had an older 99 in 300 Savage that he gave to my brother. I always thought it would be great to own one.
Wish it hadn't been D&T'ed, as I understand that this didn't come from the factory that way.
That all being said, what would something like this run, a ballpark figure?
Going back tomorrow to take a better look. Only had a few minutes the other day.
Appreciate the input.
I'm wondering if holding out for a take down in 300 Savage would be best.

There was an early run of factory D&T'd EG's but I can't remember the serial range right now. Easy way to check is if the "Savage 99" stamp is on the side of the receiver ring or under the front Weaver base? If it's under the front scope base it was done afterwards, if it's on the side it's factory.
Savage- "never say never".
Went by the smith's shop and checked out the 1950 Model 99 again and unfortunately, looks like it was not a factory scope mount drill & tap.
I'll most likely ponder it a bit and will have to wait until the owner returns from the SHOT Show to get a price, but I'm pretty sure I'll be holding off a bit.
