    They probably have a reason for building the spring loaded leg one, but nobody ever told me what it was.
    Don't even think about it, buy the notched leg model.

    I like the smooth legs. The ones I have spring in, not out. The last thing you want when setting up for a shot are springs making noise. The smooth ones also have the dial to make the legs whatever length you want. Pull them out to match terrain, spin the dial and they are locked.
