    45/70


    Wanting to know if anyone is cambering Savage barrels in 45/70 gov.(.458 Cal.) an inquiring mind wants to know.

    I do not know the answer to your question but I did put a 458 socom barrel on my savage. I see you also live in philly so if you are interested in trying my 458 at the range to see if that is a road you might be interested in let me know. jay

    I'm sure you can get one chambered in 45-70 if you so wish. I think the issue you're going to run into is getting that rimmed cartridge to feed from a box magazine bolt action.

    Bingo. Guys have coned or tapered the breech of the barrel and used a small notch for the extractor before. I only read about it and saw pictures.
    A 375 wsm with a 300 grain round nose should come close.
    The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

    Yea that is one of my long term dreams or thoughts.

    Its a nostalgia thing. My wife would shoot it as she loves that (she got to shoot one some years back and loved it)
