RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.

Your question is wide open. Is your only option using th 7 rem mag case? Is your only option 7 MM? For example Deans post or is something like a 6.5 - 7mmrm or 338- 7mmrm.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

i have 300wm and 7mm brass my original thought was to switch the gun over to a 300wm but reading an article it was saying that a 300wm 210gr and a 7mm 168gr out to about 500 yards was basically the same energy and velocity with the 7mm less drop then the 300. that's why i was thinking of going with the 7mm but didn't know what others have built. This will be up to 1000 yard gun.

    If you mean 7 mag,no. It's a short action.

Warren, the confusion here is that the "7mm" is a bullet diameter not a case size, there is no such thing as a "standard 7mm". There is a huge difference between a 7mm RUM and a 7mm Mauser case size wise but the bullets are same 7mm in diameter. If you are trying to use the 300 Win Mag or 7mm Rem Mag cases then your best option is the 7mm Dingato (7mm-300 Win). You should be able to get in the 3150fps area with the 168 without stressing anything.
    More shooting, less typing.

There is no cartridge named 7mm standard. 7mm or .284" is the diameter of the bullet and there are a plethora of cartridges that will shoot this bullet. On a Savage action, there are 2 families that are very popular with the 7mm family of cartridges. The first would the .473" family of cartridges. These would be cartridges like the 7mm-08, 280, 284.

Cartridges with .540 will be you magnum cartridges. These would be 7mm rem mag, 7suam, 7wsm, ect.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

For either long range target shooting, or long range hunting, the 300 win mag would be the better all round choice.
Reason being a wider range of bullet selection. For long range target shooting the 210 might be a good choice,
but for hunting, id be using 190s for more velocity. Don't just be pouring over charts and comparing minor differences
in things. Your comparing apples and oranges with your example at 500 yds due to bullet weight differences.
Compare them at 1000 yds or further and see what happens.
