Pretty neat, I like this because I keep bolt locked separately in house
Ever wanted a safe way to store and protect your bolt when it is out of the rifle?
I have a Savage Model 12 VLP DBM .223 and needed a bolt protector.
At a recent shooting competition I mentioned this to a friend who does 3D printing. Easy he said, I'll take a couple of measurements and print one for you.
The next morning ne had a prototype ready to try.
As it was a bit tight he said no problem I'll print a revised version for you tonight. The next morning I had the finished item (pictures below).
One can insert the bolt into the protector and then cock the bolt to release spring pressure.
Decock the bolt and withdraw before use.

I store bolts, rifle and ammunition separately - in fact New Zealand law requires this.
This bolt protector does make separate storage easier, and at competition it makes storage and location of the bolt easier too as we are requred to have to the bolt out of the rifle except when ready to fire.
I'd like to get two of those, for model 12, in 223. Is your friend available to make more?
I'd like to get 3 let me know. 1 in long action .243, long action .270win, short action 7.62x39 so .308
BTW thanks Texas 10 for finding this because I've been looking for it for a couple months and couldn't find it

OP got ahold of me and said the designer will not build and send but did post the file online so you can dl and give to someone to print locally.

Is this sa or la?

The file is for sa
Thanks for replying for me.
The files for this have been posted online.
For other models/calibres the design will need to be modified to suit and fit your bolts.
The printer and I are in New Zealand. It wouldn't be viable to print them here and ship them to you.
Hope you can find a local to modify the design and print them for you.
I have located a 3-D print shop nearby and will put together a group purchase if anyone else is interested. The first run will be for SA bolts and in gray color. I plan to make at least two for my two Savage SA model 12's.
Don't PM me now, wait until I have all the details. I will post some pics and a review once I have two in hand and some idea of cost.
I have put out a craigslist ad and am in talks with someone as of today as well

Sorry Texas I'm not trying to step on your toes I didn't notice you posted until after I already put mine out there.
I am in, can we make sure the original designer gets a cut of the profits?

Anything is possibe. I know there won't be much profit at all since they are pretty cheap on my quote.
Well, in my quote make sure there are some royalties ;-)

Again, please refer to the rules regarding vendors/manufacturers. This is twice now I've let it slide, next time you're getting an infraction and a short vacation.
