I would not be concerned about McGowen quality or reputation at all. They have quality products, have never heard differently, and I have a few that all shoot better than 1/2-1/4 MOA

Barrel on the way. Scope still on backorder. Just need to order the stock and then it's just a matter of tools and rings and such

What twist did you end up going with?
1 in 8. I figure for my build goals it will be plenty. A dead deer or yote doesn't care if you were using a 95 105 or 115gr bullet

That will do. If you YouTube take a look at Mark & Sam After Work. He shoots a 243 well out past 1500 yards with the 95 gr Berger VLD's with a 1:10 no less.
I'll have to look into that. I know TheDartman76 has some good long range coyotes with a 243

I never get tired of their videos.
I'm not sure how well your internal magazine will install in the Bell & Carlson. I briefly toyed with installing my 12FV centerfeed internal magazine in a B&C Medalist A2 and gave up. I had decided to go with a DBM, anyway. Entire rifle in B&C stock is at CDI right now being inletted for their DBM. CDI has a DBM for your rifle as well. They will inlet the stock for free if you pay for shipping the rifle to them. The DBM will set you back another $300 plus magazines when all said and done. I'm including shipping back and forth to Sarasota, FL. It will be worth it for me.
^^^^ ?????
12fv is center feed blind mag. Bell and Carlson makes stocks for center feed blind mags. That should not be an issue whatsoever.
The 12FV center feed blind mag is a POS. You realize this once you have it out of the factory stock. It was not a drop-in to the B&C made for this rifle. It would require some "finessing". I was already going down the DBM path, so I didn't spend much time with it. Trust me, I just dealt with this. It truly was a fitment issue if I really wanted to keep the blind mag. All that being said, I love the B&C Medalist A2 stock and can't wait to get it back fitted with the CDI DBM.
I'm good on CDI for now. This build is already getting pretty expensive.

I guess it's a good thing I don't have a 12fv.

Just a quick update. Still haven't ordered the stock as I've been trying to his my savings goal first. Barrel is at my Dad's house, scope still on backorder but we're getting close I'd guess as they charged my card. Now it's a matter of a base, rings, stock, and bipod. Then some reloading components but I'll probably just use what I have on hand for break in.
Quick update. Stock is in. Scope is in. My time here is winding down so hopefully by Christmas I'll have it put together. Really like how the stock looks.

I ran some numbers using the vortex ballistic app comparing a 260 shooting a berger hybrid 140g at 2700 fps and a 300 win mag shooting a SMK 190gr at 2940 fps.
At 1000 yards:
260: 30.7MOA drop. Velocity 1512FPS. Time of flight: 1.486seconds. Energy: 710 foot pounds
300 win mag: 27.71MOA drop. Velocity 1508FPS. Tim of Flight: 1.426seconds Energy: 959 foot pounds
So a 260 has ~10% more drop, ~74% of the energy at 1000 yards. The 260 will get the job done with less powder, less recoil, and better barrel life. A 243 shooting a 105g berger hybrid at 3000fps will drop even less than a 260 or 300 win mag, and has ~500 foot pounds of energy.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
Been putting together some final pieces. Now only powder to go and there are so many choices. I'd like to get something that will get me in the 2900-3k range with the A Max. I also would like to stock up as more than likely powder will likely be in short supply soon. I'm thinking 4895 is a safe bet but it'll be a little slow though I can use it in my 45 70. I'm thinking reloder 17 or 22, ramshot hunter or magnum, or h100v. There are many options out there and my reloading experience with the 243 is limited. Thanks

I don't know if I'm reading this right but you mentioned 4895 being "a little slow" but all the powders you listed are slower (burn rate) than that. Did you mean velocity slow?
I usually pick a powder that fills the case and gives decent velocity. Some instances I've found that faster powders that don't fill the case ended up being better (like H4831 in my 7-mag) but I always try high-density loads first.
Edit:
I wanted to add that IMR-4350 was awesome in my .243Win with 87gr V-max and 85gr Sierra. Can't remember the charge weight off the top of my head. I don't use those bullets any more.
Also it worked well with 70gr Nosler ballistic tips (which I bought 1000 of so that's my .243 coyote bullet for a long time).
Yes, I meant slow velocity wise. 4895 is to fast of a powder to push the bullets out quickly. It has produced good accuracy in Dad's Savage FTR though back when we were practicing together for that, I could shoot easy 3/4" groups at 200. My wind reading is pretty awful though so that's something I'd like to get better.
Steelhead, I'm thinking 4451 may be the ticket. It's pricey buy I'm also looking at doing a WSM barrel in the future and that will be usable there according to Hodgdon. Thanks
Are you using the 105gr Amax? if so, i would recommend waiting for the hornady ELD 6mm bullets to come out, and they are soon. If not, you will probably get better results with the 105gr hornady HPBT. I believe hornady is discontinuing the Amax due to the polymer tip not holding up due to heat at high speeds and long distances.
I use Reloader 23 and get great results with it out of my 1-8" twist 243 using the sierra 107 match kings and the hornady match bthp's. no matter my powder combo, i was unable to get satisfactory loads with the 105 amax.
I agree
4895 is way to fast of powder
H4350
H4831
7828ssc
roader17,19 and 22
Also look at 4451 and 4955 in the new enduron powders, those and the two Hodgdon powder are nice as a hotter load is less likely to bite you in summer heat and 243 can get a bit spooky
