Thanks. I plan to buy different brands and weights. Start small and work my way up. Get the fundamentals down and then go further. I'm not expecting moa at distance but able to ring a 12" gong at 680.

My brother in laws dad (wife's sisters husband) said he'd sell me a model 12 with a 26in bull barrel in 223 for.....350. There's a scope on it but not sure on brand and if it's included. Wish I would have known that b4 I got the axis. But it's gonna have to wait. Any day now I'll have a brand new baby girl. Priorities suck lol

I asked and he said he'll think about it. Either way I pay for it and keep the axis or I trade and have a better platform. I plan to prairie dog hunt next summer too.

Well I have a bone stock Savage Edge clambered in .223 topped with a Leopold VX-3 4.5-14x40 that will put 3 55gr V-Max reloads through the same ragged hole at 100 yards!
It has dropped a coyote at 335 yards.
It has banged steal at 400 yards and really think I could push it a bit further with a bit more time and a heavier bullet.
I don't shoot factory ammo much but here is a 100 yard group with some Hornady 55gr V-MAX.

That's a nice group. I was planning on trying them. Been too cold and windy lately plus gone most of the week for work. Those go for 30-34 a box of 50 I think where I live.

I have a friend that has the Axis 223 with accutrigger and he was using cheap Federal M193 55 gr fmj and it was shooting as well as my 6.5 Grendel AR out to 300 yards. To say I was amazed would be an understatement.

I'm excited to try it with good ammo. If I don't trade it im still ahead.

Is the Axis a 1-9 twist? My 16" AR 15 likes the Hornady 75 gr match but it's a 1-7 twist, like someone said earlier you're probably going to have to stay with a 69 gr max. The 62 gr Fusions also should work very well but each gun is different.

If you're just plinking I'd stay with the Federal or PMC, for serious business/hunting I'd use the Fusion 62 gr or Barnes TSX, but they're more expensive. Like someone said earlier try out the Federal 50 gr varmint loads.

As for the bipod I would recommend you check out the support systems from Vanguard Outdoors. I have a couple and I am extremely impressed with them.
As for the group, I think you just need better ammo! 👍

I agree. I had it on hand from a plinking session and never grouped it. Now I just need to get my mosin that's scoped sighted in and group that.

it's really all about the cartridges and the 1:9 axis .223rem twist will easily handle sierra match king 69 grain bullets ... that's all i use.

Just did the trigger mod. Threaded a ball point pen spring into trigger and it's alot better. Did a few drop tests and it didn't go off. Kept original spring intact do if I need warranty work or to return to original I can. Should help alot on groups.

Hi Jammer, Very good, what is the end trigger pull now?
I did use a Rifle Basix SAV2 and was able to get it to 1.5lbs.
I'm very happy with that for my level of experience.
    Thanks, HalfTrack

I'm not sure. Haven't measured it yet. If I had to guess I'd say 2.5-3.

And get rid of the lead sled, you don't need it for a 223. Get a bipod or bags.

I don't have one yet. But I also have 3 30 caliber rifles that will need it. Bipod for 223 is up next.

Lookin good. I wouldnt expect any better using tul and american eagle, doesn't matter how good the rifle or shooter are I think that's about the most consistency you'll get out of that stuff.

Oh I wish I could. Good earmuffs and she probably won't even wake up. My 5 yr old can be loud as hell and she don't care.
