This match was ran very well. The stages were challenging and a lot of fun. I'll edit the posts above tomorrow with the target ranges and other info. I finished up 16th out of 48 shooters which wasn't to bad considering its a brand new range to me and the scenery is 100% different from desert type shooting.

What cartridge/yardage?

243win. Shot 115 DTACs for part of the match and 105hybrids the other half. (my stock of DTACS ran dry). Shortest shot of the day was 159yds, longest shot 1000yds. Most were between 400-700yds. I would post the course of fire if I had internet, but I just don't have it yet at the new house.

Mind you the rifle weighs in at 17lbs.

Been watching some of the videos.

PRS Rule 1.3.3 states:

All transitions and movements during a course of fire must be done withopen bolts and an empty chamber. An exception will be made for Semi-AutomaticRifles but only at the discretion and approval of the MatchDirector. If the MD does permit transitions and movements with a hot rifle,the weapon must be on safe; NO EXCEPTIONS.

I've yet to see a video of a competitor using a semi-auto rifle. Have you seen any in your matches and if so, how were the transitions/movements handled?

OK - so some shooter's do actually use them. I've just not seen any video and it seems that none of the high-placing shooters use one.

Do you think that's because of cartridge availability/choices, accuracy, something else???

I'll try to get the score sheet posted. I placed 16th at this match and was beat by one gasser in 15th. I think bolt guns handle better and are easier to shoot in these matches.

Do you have any trouble getting solid rests with a 17 lb rifle? It doesn't look like you have a super long barrel, where does all the weight come in? You run the bolt like a f'ing master.

The matches look like a lot of fun, longrange has gotten into them locally. I would like to try but I pretty much need a new rifle. The movement and changes in stage add another element that make it look like a ton of fun.

The rifle I have now was built for single shot competitions. It could be converted, but not without spending some serious $$$ to get it to mag feed.

Weight actually helps with stability. 2 things driving the weight in my rifle is that I run a Heavy Varmint Profile barrel Length is 26" and the Gen ii Razor hd weighs almost 4lbs.

Having your stock inletted and bottom metal installed isn't to big of a deal. You should 've able to get it done for $200-$300 tops.

As far as running the bolt, there's been a lot of dry fire practice and the Mausingfield is a more than exceptional custom action.

For this match scoring was pretty interesting as with the way it's thought out its dang near impossible to have a tie at the end.

All stages were 99secs
All stages had 10shots
Every miss adds 30secs to your final time
Your final score is your total time for all stages added together.

The score sheet shows of of these factors for each stage plus how you ranked on the individual stage against all other shooters. I need to work on my stage to stage consistency as I had just as many stages that I ranked in the top 10 as I did in the 20-30 mark.

This may not open very well and therefore be hard to read with that the difference between my 16th place and 1st place was 13 hits. 6 more hits would have put me in 6th, so take out the mistakes made due to being unfamiliar with the range and wind reading in the lanes cut out between the trees. Also some self induced items like shooting 2 different bullets due to the DTACs drying up for the time being and I feel I will be much more competitive at the next match over at Frontline Defense!

Here's the course of fire. Also identified in the videos which stages they are:

Stage 1. Peek a Boo. Target ranges are 226/441/721/441/226. Any positon you can use to engage. No touching the ground, must be on the platform or on the steps. Engage near to far then work your way back.
Stage 2. Railroad Tie. Target ranges are 405/470/540. Rifle must be placed on top of the railroad tie and shooter inside the vehicle. Engage near to far.
Stage 3. Chevy. Target ranges are 209/301/341/381/412. Shooter is laying on top of the cab of the truck. Engage near to far.
Stage 4. Spools. Target ranges are 641/636/630/625/620. Starting furthest spool away and then moving forward.
Stage 5. Brace. Target range is 319. 2 shots prone, 2 kneeling, 2 standing, 2 kneeling and final 2 prone.
Stage 6. Rock. Target ranges are 149/224/307/417/650. Engage near to far.
Stage 7. Stumps. Target range is 450. Start at stump on the left then working your way across to the right.
Stage 8. Deck. Target range is 300/500/700/900/1,000/800/600/400/200. Engage targets in order. 9 shots at 9 targets. 10th round will be an alibi/bonus round on this stage. Details given at match.
