    6x47L or 6XC....

Hey guys, I have 3 short actions that need barrels. I've heard great things about the xc...will it shoot well in a 24" barrel or does it need to be longer??

Which caliber seems superior between these two??

Other excellent short action cal recommendations??

The cases are about the exact same with the XC being just a few Thou longer in the body. The only other difference is the Lapua uses small rifle primers where the XC uses large. Norma and Lapua brass are pretty much on the same level as well. There have been a few threads on the forum of guys having issues cycling the shorter cartridges. Either one will give you the performance you want. XC doesn't have to be resized initially where the lapua has to be formed from 6.5x47L Brass.

If planning to shoot tactical matches and cycling from a magazine then a 24"-26" barrel is appropriate. If shooting single shot F-Class type work I'd go with a 28" and get the extra velocity.

So either one you are good. I'd pick the one that has components most readily available to you!

I only have experience with the XC having built and tuned a couple for people here locally. Accuracy is outstanding, recoil is very mild and is a very efficient cartridge. One was a savage with a CBI varmint barrel at 26 inches. I ended up at 39.0gr of H4350 with the Berger 105 Hybrid running right at 3050fps. Accuracy was phenomenal with 2" five shot groups on steel at 760 Yards. The other was built on a TikKa that was originally a .22-250. I put on a Shilen #4 chrome moly 8 twist match barrel finished at 24" This was built for long Range Coues Deer and is also running the 105 Hybrid with 39.5gr of H4350 at the same 3050fps and excellent accuracy. In my limited experience the sweet spot sure seems to be right around 39 grains of powder and 3050fps. Your milage may vary but I have plans to buid one of my own here soon because it is such a sweet little round. In both cases I couldn't make these rifles shoot groups much bigger than 1/2" at 100 yards. It is a very inherently accurate and forgiving on the load development side of things. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!!!! This will be my third CBI barrel from Northland....6.5-284, 6.5x55 and now the 6xc

my 55 is shooting 1/4 Moa at 100 and I shot a 2.126" group at 600 last night. Still learning the tricks but having fun!!
Working on the Norma more now. It's shooting eld-x's pretty well tho!! My 8 year old boy shot a gong at 850yards last weekend.

A 2-1/4" group at 600yds is pretty impressive.

By the time you get done shipping and renting one you might as well just buy one......there are a lot of good options out there. Besides, if you ever want to swap barrels back and forth you'll need it again any way.

Any of you guys tried Varget in the 6XC with 105s? I know H4350 is most popular, but curious...
