Will I need a canted base? (long range 6BR)

I am putting together a 6BR that will be used out to a usual max distance 6-800 yards. However, at some point, I would like to try for 1000 yards just for fun. The scope is still undecided, but I am leaning towards a Sightron SIII 8-32x50. I believe this scope has 70 MOA of elevation. Considering this is a standard 8-twist 6BR that will shoot heavier bullets, will I need a canted base to get on target at these distances? Also, any recommendations on bases are more than welcome.

More than likely not but you could always mount the scope with Burris signature zee rings and add inserts if you need to. Real simple fix.

I suspect you will be at 25-30 MOA drop at 1000 yards.. If you have to dial up 5 moa from mechanical zero to get the rifle zero'd then you only have 30 moa left... Its a close call... However, stomp442 suggestion was a good one.. The Burris Sig Zee rings are a great option....

I still don't like those Zee Rings. I get 20-30MOA bases for every rifle I build. As it most likely will not be the same chamberings forever and may need the extra can't. Never had issues with zeroing at 100 with anything 308 to fast 6's and 6.5's with the 20 or 30 moa base.

I suppose that there really isn't any harm in getting a 20 MOA base, then? I may not actually need it, but I won't be sacrificing anything by using one. Do you guys have any recommendations for canted bases that fit Savage PTA's? (maybe this goes in a different sub-forum...)

6-800 yards flat base is fine,, but 1000 you will be maxed out or very close. I would get the EGW HD 20 MOA 1 piece and be done with it.

I don't like the burris sig zee rings either, they look sloppy and I don't trust them but other's love them so I suppose they would be ok. I like the weaver 6 screw rings they are heavy duty.

I use the ZEE for every gun I have. 1" will give you up to 40 moa. 30mm will give you 20 moa. If you are going to buy a base, get a 20 moa cost would be the same. Get the ZEE's and you are set. I have a 6 BR 8 tw going together now. The target action I have has Ken Ferrel 0 moa base on it now. I put the Zee's with 20 moa in them and I have 55 moa left, with my Sightron S3.

The specifications on a scope can be misleading. Even though you are looking at 70moa total adjustment, you will roughly have 35moa on the top and 35moa on the bottom. To take full advantage of the reticle erector, you have to use an moa base. I'm a fan of Farrell Industries products myself. Ken sold me on his products by answering the phone and helping with the best possible set up for me. You can't get that many places now days...
