    270 varmint loads

I loaded up some 100gr expanding boat tail factory second bullets from midway. Using 53 grains of cfe223. Shows some pressure signs. Anybody have any other load recipes.

WOW that is a min load I am surprised you are seeing pressure signs, if you have any RL17 or H4350 you can run past 60gr start at 58gr. If you don't have these powders let me know what you have. Also don't jam them into the lands give them some breathing room.

Compress as much H4831 as you can into that case 63gr + or - and have fun. you will be no where near pressure signs, everything else you have is to fast for your application. You should see 3300+ FPS.

the top is a factory load. Middle and bottom are 63 grains of 4831. What is the problem here?

You have 3 different brands of brass. Each brand will handle a charge differently. May be good in one, but over pressure in another.

This is a short barrel 270 it's 18.5 inch barrel if that helps any. I'll sort my brass by head stamp and see if that helps any. Just seems that the factory load is flattening the primers more than it should.

I run 64gr of RL17 with Speer and Sierra 90gr HPs, the primers are a little flat but nothing to worry about. With 28" 11 twist I do get over 4000 fps you can't get more varmint than that.

This is another reason to re-read the part in every manual telling you that: while better than nothing, "Pressure signs", are meaningless. Watch your velocities, THOSE are what will keep you quite accurate in terms of actual pressures/

It is my most accurate load so I am going to stick with it, no matter what any book says.

I'll try and get my hands on some rl17. I tried 50 grains of varget with good results as far as grouping and no pressure signs. A chronograph is one of the next things on my wish list.
