    Hello Everyone,

My name is Warren, I just purchased my first Savage rifle. It's a Savage 99 in 300 Savage cal. I have been shooting a Remington 760 in the 300 Savage round for 25 years now. I truly love it. I've hunted all my life but I enjoy deer hunting the most now in my old disabled age. (61) I grew up shooting pump guns mostly, although I have owned several lever actions in the past non were Savages. I have looked at several Model 99s thru the last 15 years but had never found one in 300 Savage, till this week in any of our local gun shops here. Once I found it, I bought it.
I'm still not sure exactly what year it was made but the serial number comes up 1949. SS#5101xx it has an astrisk where the lever attaches nothing else. It has a 24" barrel and is DT'ed. for scope. Should be 1949 or early 50. I have done a lot of reading trying to figure it out. And trying to determine the model R, RS, or EG. The stock has a deer head lightly carved/stamped on both sides back close to the butt plate. Doubt is was factory but both sides look exactly alike. So who knows. I haven't had time to research the checkering and such yet, but the fore arm is tapered thinner in front and rounded. It also has the lever lock safety.
I'm looking forward to shooting it soon. Going today to buy scope mounts for my 4x12. Any info or responses will be appreciated and respected. Thanks ahead of time.

When the 300 Savage is around, they all go down!!!
