    Deeply confused on target actions

    Savage lists 6 target actions:

    Std Right Bolt, Right Port
    223 Right Bolt, Right Port

    Std Right Bolt, Left Port
    223 Right Bolt, Left Port

    Std Right Bolt, Dual Port
    223 Right Bolt, Dual Port

Are all of these large shank? Are the only difference between the 223 bolt head action and the std bolt head action...the bolt head itself? Are they all the same action length, bolt and shank size?

Could I convert a 223 dual port to a std caliber dual port by just changing to a standard caliber bolt head?

Are all the Target Actions large shank regardless of the bolt head being 223 or std cal?

You got me...according to the Savage website...apparently anything other than 223. It actually reads Standard Caliber...I copy and pasted it below.

    Standard Caliber Bolt Head
    Right-bolt, left-load, right-eject, dual port

mmm... strange? and to make it even more confusing I've got a .223 short action 12F/tr (there are long action options also) with a R/H bolt, L/H load/eject.. much easier as I'm left handed and shoot from a bench.. my bones won't let me go prone..

Std is 473 bolt face. All PTA are large shank. All are short action. The dual port has different screw spacing.

I'm thinking about a 12 F T/R in 308. I have seen some descriptions of this rifle as dual port...It sounds like it is right bolt , left port.

I have no idea anymore. i just ordered a 12 F T/R in 308 and I'll see what port configuration shows up. The sales blurb on Bud's claim it's a dual port but I have my doubts.
Now all I have to do is figure out the mount and rings.
I'll likely eventually go for the usual foolishness, NSS barrel nut and recoil lug, PTG bolt head, SSS extractor/ejector kit...
...then when I get a bit bored, a different barrel from the likes of McGowan, Pac-Nor or some other that does pre-fits.
