I'm looking to do the staggered feed to center feed internal magazine change for a saum build on a 110 action. I see on Savage's website that there are 4 long action mag types. 30-06, 7mm rem mag, and 300 win mag, and the RUM's. For a saum build, I'm thinking the 300 win mag magazine would be the choice, with some tweaks. Can someone explain the differences between the 7mm rem mag and 300 win mag center feed magazines and which one would be the better one to go off of?
Well, the SAUM's are based upon a short action length, so essentially 2.8" COAL.
The 7mm Rem magnum & 300 WM are both based off of the standard long action.
Both the Win Mag and REM mag case had the 458/338/264 win mag parent case. So the magazine dimensions should be the same. If Savage put the 300 in a magnum action then technically you may gain a dash more room. But I guess my question would be why, when dealing with a short cartridge?

I'm making 10 round in a few days. Just made a 5 round for 6.5x.284 one piece mag. Hope to have the 5 up and running in the next day or two. I will post some pics soon

What do you think a "dash more room" would yield? 25 fps?
Why, no good reason. Mostly because I was gifted a vintage LA and I'm looking for some more information.
If my COAL calcs are correct, using a 7mm 180 grain VLD where the boat tail is the only part in the case then I get 3.29". Even with a 6.5mm and 140 grain, I get 3.19". I've read that the SA internal mags only have a 2.95" usable length. Similar to the 6.5x284 with long bullets, and seeing I have a LA lying around, then it seams reasonable.
Very difficult to say. Powders behave differently in every case, and by volume. Then the whole problem with chamber and bore dimensions.
Here is what I can tell you in the Creedmoor.
When we Pressure tested a pile of bullets and powders, each 75-100fps comes at the cost of 10-15,000 psi increase. Does that apply to another cartridge? Can't say. With some limited testing in the 308, it's still close.

Well my COAL dimensions are off. Forgot to subtract the case neck length. That brings the COAL down to 2.96" I hear that fits into mags.
The pressure numbers seem to make senesce. Give me a good starting point. Thanks for the help.
