Buy snap cap's ??? Make your own with pencil eraser or fired brass with spent primer
All right, I have heard hundreds of opinions on dry firing from buddies, members of my rifle club, etc.
I want to know what you guys think. Do I really need to shell out the $10 plus shipping to get a set of snap caps? Has anyone here dry fired their centerfires to the point where a part was wore out/ broke?

A modern Savage 110/10 series? No problems - dry fire away.
A Sharps (original or repro), a CZ semi-auto pistol, old S&W revolvers etc. - don't do it
Can't make a blanket statement one way or another but it IS certainly ok with a modern Savage bolt gun. If you don't know, snap caps are cheap (or easy to make as Possum pointed out).
I have dry fires many Savage hundreds of time without a problem. Worse case scenario you could break the cross pin in the bolt but it would take a lot of dry firing. (Something in the few hundred thousand times)
