    Model 11 or Axis II?

    I looking to buy my stepson a 243 and was curious if the model 11 is worth the extra costs over the Axis II?

    I don't think there is much difference between the two basically the Scope. 111 TH XP comes with Nikon and XPII comes with Weaver. Both have Accutrigger. Both have $50 rebate right now. Both are 1-9.25 twist in .243 The axis is 43.875" OAL and the 111 TH XP is 41.5" OAL both have 22" barrels.

    Thanks. My LGS told me the new model 11 Trophy Hunter XPs were shipping with Weavers now. Said the company that owns Savage now owns Weaver also.

    There are some things about the AXIS I like. I am partial to the 10,11 and 12,14 and 16 models due to aftermarket. Some people love their Axis' but many are disappointed.
    The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

    I have a model 16 trophy hunter xp in 260, he really liked the rifle and wants something to hunt varmints and deer. The ammo for the 260 is outrageous hence the 243.

    He's a senior in college and I don't know how much he'll use it. Guess I'll order the mdl 11, from what I've seen they seem to be better built rifles.

    Thanks guys.

    I agree with Robinhood in favor of the Model 11 because of the availability of aftermarket parts. I don't think the 11 is built any better than the Axis as far as the actions are concerned. :-)

    I have/had a few of each, I prefer the 10/110 series pretty much universally.

    Couple of reasons why;

    - Short actions for short cartridges... The Axis is a long action across the board.
    - Axis stock is junk, 10/110 series stock depends on model, but they're usually less junky. Now, I don't say that because "omg it's flimsy", but I've broken 2 Axis stocks just in my own general use. Knocked the grip cap off one, and some how managed to break the tab that holds the buttpad on another. I've never broken a basic 11 polymer stock. If another Axis enters my home, it'll get a Boyd's. And that, of course, leads us into the other stock/aftermarket options for the 10/110.
    - The bolt lift on every 10/110 I've used was lighter than the Axis, but I have found that the Axis action is stupid slick.
    - And I just generally like the bolt knob checkering and bolt jeweling on the 10/110 rifles. I also like that the recoil lug is on the action, not the stock. Little things that have no real bearing on performance.

    So, there's nothing deal-breaking about the Axis or groundbreaking about the 10/110 actions... just little things that, given a minor price difference, will keep me getting the 10/110. And when I say "10/110", I mean all the iterations.. 10, 11, 14, 16, and their long action counter parts. That being said, I got a Stainless Axis .243 as a gift a few years ago, and I was no less appreciative! I don't think you can really go wrong for your stepson.
