My Hornady manual does not list TAC for its 75r bullets, and my Ramshot manual only lists the Hornady 75gr HPBT (21.7 - 24.1, COL 2.260). I am pretty sure the AMAX is a much longer bullet than the HPBT as the BC are .435 and .395. I will definitely be loading to a length longer than 2.260. I am about to test an empty cartridge in my rifle to determine seating depth.
Also, I am a little leery of the Ramshot data because it lists its test rifle as a 24" 1-12 twist barrel that produced velocities for this combo from 2582-2820. I have a 22" barrel with 1-9 twist. I have shot this bullet out of this gun with pretty good results using XBR8208 at 22.8 and 23.1 grains, but I did not have a chorine at the time so I have no idea of velocity. I now want to try it with TAC.
Does anyone with another reloading manual have a published load range for TAC and 75gr Amax?
has anyone worked up safe loads with this combo?
Should I load to the HPBT specs? (The Hornady manual does list the 2 bullets together when listing its load data)

The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
Find your seating depth with the Amax in a dummy round, then use the hpbt load data. Bearing surface difference is essentially the same.
Amax - 1.07" long
HPBT - 0.981" long.

I've never had much luck with TAC in a .223. Much prefer BL-C2, Varget or AR-Comp.

I am running the 75 Amax @ 2.39 OAL. Just fits in the Axis magazine. I am not using TAC tho can't help you there. (OAL info came from Alliant).
I have had great luck with TAC in .223. Especially 24.2gr behind Hornady 68gr HPBT. Also, I have been told by many that it is great in 223 behind heavy bullets. It meters EXTREMELY well and burns clean. I use CFE223 and IMR XBR8208 for lighter .223.Originally Posted by J. Baker

My ogive length is 1.847 with an OAL of 2.39 with the 75 Amax. If my math is right that would make your OAL for the 75 Amax 2.569? I have a 223 Match chamber in my Criterion for shooting the 80gr match bullets sounds like your throat is even longer. You going to single feed these?

That sounds about right for OAL. I have inserted a "Fred Sled" for single feeding this gun. It is a factory sporter contour barrel that I use for target shooting, and it has quite a few rounds through it. I'm afraid that the throat is so long because of wear. It still shoots extremely well, but I don't think it has much life left in it.
Sure I understand I have a barrel like that too. The Applied Ballistic calculator lists the 75 Amax at 1.1" OAL (1.116" OAL by my calipers), and the 80gr Amax at 1.16" OAL (out of stock at the moment can't confirm with my calipers). Ramshot's online reloading manual has a section for long loaded heavy bullets and they list TAC data. As I wrote earlier I load the 75 Amax at 2.39", and the 80gr Amax at 2.45", but I am also running an 8 twist Criterion barrel. I use PP 2000-MR, and with a 26" barrel I am getting 3000 fps as tested with a Magnetospeed with outstanding groups (AT 750ft elevation). It's my 600yd match load. Just an FYI when I was running a 1/9 barrel the Nosler CC 80gr would stabilize and I was getting really good accuracy with them.
