    more scope, or stay put?

I'm starting to move my zero out to 400yd and later 5-600yds on my bench shooting. At this point i'm using a 6.5-20x50ao that works very well at 300yd for seeing the paper holes of my 308. Since my moa will grow as i go out as well i'm wondering if i want to go to something like a t24 or t36 or sightron 36 as i go out. Any thoughts on this from those of you who get to shoot much further out will help alot.

After reading the pros and cons of a fixed power scope, i simply need some input before i throw $4-500 dollars into another scope since i'm (hunting) scope poor already. This 12fvss is just a paper rifle and doesn't go hunting, so would you leave the standard cross hair 6.5-20x50 on, or would i see better further out with a fine dot t36? Thanks for any help guys. blue

Fixed scope, you have no way to turn it down when mirage is bad. Power is good with adjustability.

Good point. Some fixed high power scopes just magnify the mirage.

Learn to read it and mirage can be your friend.

IMO stay where you are the upper end should be fine for what you are doing, and you should have plenty of adjustment left to move out.Unless you are going to make this a dedicated target rifle.Save your money and try it you can always get a different scope later if this one doesn't work out for you.

All the suggestion's here are good. You have plenty of scope. My 12fvss has a 6-18 Nikon Buckmaster on it and at 600 it is fine for me. This rifle is my switchgun for hunting and paper. If it was solely intended for paper I would save up and get more power in a variable. Sound's like the hunting rifle may need optics.

Thanks guys, i like the 6.5-20x50 enough that i got two more of them just to have around. I'm kinda stuck with 380yds as my long range at the moment at our range, but the weather will straighten up here in a couple of weeks and i can build a longer range to shoot at.

I do need more input on the choices you guys like for fixed/variable, so please keep them coming. blue

My best scope for paper is a 12-42 N.F.BR. with a NPR1 reticle. I have egw and ferrel bases on 4 rifles, I have shot this scope on all 4 in 1 day out to 1000 yards. IOR rings make easy on and off. When you get used to doing this it takes no more then a couple of rounds to get on target. I have a weaver 24 tdot that I used the same way and I liked plenty for 1000 yard shooting. I believe if I was in the market for a bench scope today I'd look at the Sightron's, the fixed power is okay, but I think you'd be happier with a variable, especially at longer distances.
